Artists M. Carmen Lane and Arthur Russell will host, “In Theory, In Practice,” at ATNSC: Center for Healing & Creative Leadership as the inaugural in-person gathering at our site on Cromwell Avenue. Using prompts from writings on socially engaged art, our guests will engage in conversation about the role of artists in catalyzing change in our community--particularly at the intersections of race, class and gender(s).
This in person event marks the one year anniversary of “In Theory, In Practice,” ATNSC’s occasional reading group for artists, community based leaders and educators in the Great Lakes Region. Our meetings sample a range of theoretical and practical works exploring the histories and futures of socially engaged art. Our aims are to foster critical conversation and to support the collective interventionist practices of all participants.
ATNSC: Center for Healing & Creative Leadership is an artist-run urban retreat, residency and exhibition space (Akhsó Gallery) in the historic Buckeye-Shaker neighborhood of Cleveland.
